Automobile Driving Museum Grand Opening Celebration March 24-25

El Segundo, Ca March 10, 2007 - The Automobile Driving Museum will celebrate the grand opening of its new museum in El Segundo, California.   With more than 70 antique, special interest and historic automobiles in its collection, the new 28,000 square feet facility will comfortably accommodate most of the museum’s collection. The Automobile Driving Museum is very unique as it offers visitors the chance to view and have a “ride” in one of the actual museums’ restored vehicles and get a feel for what it was like to ride in a classic automobile.

Car enthusiasts and the public are invited to attend the weekend celebration which will be held on Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The public ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday.  Throughout the two day celebration there will be docent led tours, free cake and punch, 1950s priced hot dogs and drinks, music, novelties from a vintage soda fountain and other surprises.

The museum is located at 610 Lairport Street in El Segundo.  The museum does not charge admission but gladly accepts donations to help maintain the facility and its vehicles.

Begun in 2002, the Automobile Driving Museum, a nonprofit organization, is the only car museum in the United States which allows visitors to ride in the classic cars on display.  The museum was started by Stanley Zimmerman, Earl Rubenstein and Tommy Zimmerman to preserve the history of automobile production in America as well as the histories of the famous Americans who drove them.

Stanley's passion for automotive restoration began in the 1970s when he purchased a 1936 Packard Convertible Sedan which he painstakingly restored over the ensuing 28 years to award-winning, 100 point perfection. Since that time, the collection has expanded to include: Packards, Studebakers, Lincolns, Fords, Cadillacs, Chryslers, and a Stutz. Due to its uniqueness of variety and perfection, Stanley's collection has been shown around the country, winning awards and inspiring fellow collectors.

Some of the other cars in the collection include a1936 Packard V-12, Seven Passenger Touring Sedan; a 1940 Packard Darrin Victoria and a 1941 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet V-12.  Behind each of the cars is a rich history.

1000 automotive books, manuals and magazines will be housed in the Museum Library and available to the public.  The museum store will carry a wide and unique variety of historic collectables and foods from years gone by.

The Museum will be open to the public Saturday’s and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday by appointment.  “Rides” in select museum vehicles are on Sundays only.  For information about the grand opening and the museum, visit www.automobiledrivingmuseum.org
